Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).
What is coaching?
Coaching is a collaborative partnership between a trained professional, known as a Coach, and an individual seeking personal growth, clarity, and goal achievement. It involves a process of self-discovery, goal-setting, and action planning to help individuals overcome obstacles, challenge negative self belief, maximise their potential, and lead fulfilling lives. I focus on career coaching, however elements of your personal life may well be incorporated for balance.
How can a coach help me?
A Coach can help you in various areas of your life, including career, relationships, personal growth, health and wellness, and overall life balance. They provide support, guidance, and accountability to help you identify and achieve your goals, overcome challenges, and develop new perspectives and strategies for success.
Is Coaching similar to Therapy or Counselling?
While there may be some similarities, Coaching differs from Therapy or Counselling. Coaching is primarily focused on the present and future, helping individuals set and achieve goals. Therapy and Counselling, on the other hand, often address past traumas, emotional healing, and mental health issues. Coaching can complement therapy, but it is not a substitute for mental health treatment.
How long does a Coaching relationship typically last?
The duration of a Coaching relationship can vary depending on individual needs and goals. It can range from a few months to a year or more, with regular coaching sessions typically taking place once or twice a month. The duration and frequency of Coaching are often discussed and decided upon during the initial consultation with the life coach. The basic programme is 6 sessions over 3 months, but this can vary depending on the need.
How confidential is the Coaching process?
Confidentiality is a fundamental aspect of the coaching relationship. Life coaches adhere to strict ethical guidelines, ensuring that all information shared during coaching sessions remains confidential. However, it's important to note that if the life coach believes there is a risk of harm to you or others, they may be obligated to disclose certain information to appropriate authorities.
How do I choose the right Coach for me?
Choosing the right Coach is a personal decision. It's essential to find someone who aligns with your values, has expertise in the areas you want to focus on, and with whom you feel comfortable and supported. Take the time to research and interview potential Coaches to ensure a good fit before committing to a Coaching relationship.
Can Coaching guarantee results?
Coaching is a collaborative process, and the outcome is dependent on your commitment, effort, and willingness to take action. While a Coach can provide guidance, tools, and support, the responsibility for achieving desired results ultimately rests with you. Coaching is most effective when you actively participate and implement the strategies and insights gained through the process.
What are the benefits of working with a Coach?
Working with a Coach can bring numerous benefits, such as gaining clarity on your goals and aspirations, overcoming limiting beliefs and self-doubt, enhancing self-confidence and self-awareness, improving decision-making skills, and increasing accountability and motivation. A Coach can help you unlock your potential and create positive, lasting change in your life.
Remember, these FAQs are a general guide, and it's always best to consult with a qualified Coach directly to address any specific concerns or questions you may have.
What is the process for Coaching:
How do I book a session?
After an initial 30-minute introduction chat, if we both believe we can have a successful relationship, I'll send you a pack of information to complete; a short document, which will ask you questions about why you would like Coaching, what your strengths are, along with some logistical information, a Wheel of Life (to assess your priorities), and a DISC profile (a psychometric profile intended to help me work with you more efficiently). Then we will have an initial "Intake" session. This session will review these documents and we will hopefully create "long" goal for our sessions, during each session, we will touch on this "long" goal, but will be focused on the "sessional" goal and 5 or 6 actions which will help you achieve that "sessional" goal. The minimum attendance is six sessions, every two weeks, however, this can be made altered according to your requirements. Before each session I ask you to complete a prep sheet; which will be the basis of our session, looking at how you are progressing towards your long goal.
